Something for Annette

Soon after Annette started treatment for late-stage breast cancer in April, she and daughter Kristine started searching the internet for organizations engaged in humanitarian activities in the hope that they can find financial help to complete Annette’s treatments. They stumbled upon the I Can Serve website that directed them to this website.

I received a letter seeking financial aid.

Like our previous beneficiaries, Annette can't afford the treatment on her own. It's not like someone will come along and say "Hey, Annette, we'll take care of everything! Don't worry about the expenses!" Or maybe someone will. But in the meantime, this idea embedded in the OurOwnLittleWay website is there to plant the seed of generosity in our fellowmen:

What if we each give just a little bit?

I'd like to help Annette but I can only do so much on my own.

But what if each one gave just a little bit?
And what if there were a lot of us giving just a little bit?

Surely, that will amount to something.

So here I am...

I didn't know Annette until she emailed me about a week ago (June 2007). But I admire her determination to beat this disease. My heart goes out to her as she searches for ways to win a battle, which three of her siblings have previously lost. I want to start off by putting in 500 pesos of my own. That alone won't do much. Annette still needs at least P400,000 to complete her treatment.

Pitch In.

Give something. Any amount will do, 100 pesos, 500 pesos, a thousand, maybe more.

Give something that's easy on your pocket.
Give something that comes fully from your heart.
Give just a little bit so you can help someone else tomorrow.

I don't want this to be a burden to anyone. We all have our own share of problems to deal with. Fact is, Annette has gone through much of this without involving others because she doesn't want to be a burden to anyone either. Her family will be with her all throughout this ordeal. And maybe, in our own little way, we can do something for her, too.

Next time it could be you.

When we started this website in September 2004, it was all for Carla and we said next time, it could be for somebody else. So for now, this is all for Annette.

The main premise here is to get a little help from a lot of people to help one person.

Today, we help Annette, just as we helped others in the past. Tomorrow, we still hope to help someone else.

This is our own little way.
